Thanks to Donovan Tree Experts, we installed a new Osprey nest platform on Wednesday, April 2 on the pole that was originally installed by NH Electric Coop in January 2008 here at the Science Center. That pole was located there (in the meadow behind the marsh boardwalk pond) to provide an alternative nesting site for a pair of Ospreys that had attempted to build a nest on an electric utility pole on the shore of the Squam Lake in 2007. That pair relocated to another pole in Bridgewater and did not choose our site, but we have had occasional visits from other prospecting Ospreys over the years, but none have settled. In the last couple of years those visits have dwindled and the nest that Iain originally build has begun to fall apart, so as an attempt to make the location even more attractive to a passing male Osprey, Iain built a more substantial platform with a complete nest ready to move into.
The Donovan crew did an amazing job safely installing the platform 60 feet about the meadow.
